On May 15th, Hawaiʻi Environmental Restoration (HER) had the privilege of presenting at the Hilo Rotary Club meeting held in the conference room at the Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo – a DoubleTree by Hilton. The presentation provided an opportunity to share the story of HER’s ongoing restoration efforts within the lowland rainforest of Keauʻohana over the past twelve years.
The discussion highlighted the ecological and cultural importance of Keauʻohana, one of the few remaining lowland rainforest systems in Hawaiʻi, and the many challenges involved in protecting and restoring this precious landscape. Attendees learned about HER’s long-term commitment to native forest restoration and community engagement initiatives that have helped guide the stewardship of the forest through the years. HER also emphasized the importance of fostering future generations of environmental stewards through youth education and hands-on service opportunities.
HER is deeply grateful to the Hilo Rotary Club for the invitation and sincere interest in supporting environmental restoration efforts on Hawaiʻi Island. Opportunities to connect with community organizations help strengthen awareness, build partnerships, and inspire collective action in caring for Hawaiʻi’s unique and irreplaceable ecosystems.
Mahalo nui loa to the Hilo Rotary Club for welcoming HER and for your continued spirit of service to both the community and the environment.
